TORONTO – Many media outlets are claiming the three deadly explosions in Mumbai Wednesday coincide with the birthday of Pakistani Islamist terrorist Ajmal Kasab.
Conflicting reports indicated Kasab was born on July 13, 1987.
According to his prison confession, Kasab was actually born on September 13, 1987.
The 24-year-old is the lone terrorist captured in connection to the November 26, 2008 shooting and bombing attacks on India’s financial capital.
He was sentenced to death last May for his role in the 60-hour terrorist siege that left 166 people dead. Kasab remains in Indian police custody.
The death toll in Wednesday’s attack continues to climb. Over 20 people are dead and at least 70 more were wounded in the evening attack on three busy city neighbourhoods.
The blasts mark the first major terrorist strike on Mumbai since November 2008.
