Point Lepreau nuclear power plant offline for repairs

FREDERICTON – A problem with a turbine system pump on Saturday has led to New Brunswick’s Point Lepreau nuclear power plant being offline.

Sean Granville, the chief nuclear officer for NB Power, says the equipment issue has had no impact to staff, the public or environment.

He says the plant is expected to return to full power later this week.

On Friday, the utility said the 660-megawatt plant had been at 100 per cent reactor power for 133 days.

Point Lepreau produced about 45 per cent of the total generation from the Crown utility’s generating stations in March.
