1 worker dead, 1 seriously injured at Vale smelter in Sudbury

SUDBURY, Ont. – One man is dead and another has been seriously injured in an incident at Vale’s smelter in Sudbury.

Vale says the incident involving the two workers happened Sunday at the casting and crushing plant at its Copper Cliff smelter.

Few details have been released but authorities say a 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 28-year-old man was seriously injured.

The injured worker was rushed to hospital in Sudbury and is now in stable condition.

Police and the Ministry of Labour are investigating.

Immediate family of the two workers have been notified, but the men’s names have not been released.
