WATCH: Credit Counseling on the Rise

A credit counseling office in Kelowna is marking its 10th anniversary. The not for profit group offers free counseling to people wanting to get out of debt.

Since its inception in Kelowna, many more such offices have popped up throughout Canada. Credit counselor Ben Neiland says that’s an indication of the growing number of people needing help to manage their finances.

“Average debt load is about 30 thousand dollars for a family” says Neiland.

He says a big problem these days is that many people don’t have a proper budget in place and have no idea how much their monthly expenses are at.
