Woman wanted in Saskatoon and Edmonton for fraud arrested

SASKATOON – A woman wanted on fraud charges in Saskatoon and Edmonton has been arrested.

Melissa Weatherbee, 31, was arrested on Thursday morning following a tip to Saskatoon police.

Weatherbee is accused of defrauding people in Saskatoon between November 2013 and February 2014.

Most of the victims were approached in their homes in the area of Avenue B North when Weatherbee would tell them she needed the money for an emergency.

Police allege Weatherbee would convince the victim to deposit a cheque in their bank account for more than the money owed and then withdraw the excess cash.

Those cheques were later found to be counterfeit.

Weatherbee was also wanted by Edmonton police for a series of frauds in that city last year.

Edmonton police allege Weatherbee would tell victims a hard luck story in an attempt to get money from them.

She is facing at least 12 charges there, including fraud and forged documents.
