Don’t forget to plug your meter. City parking enforcement is cracking down harder this year.
Regina has 16 parking officers on patrol. That’s more than double the officers on the street over spring 2013.
As a result revenue from parking fines is expected to increase by $330, 000.
The city is focusing on specific “trouble spots” where illegal parking typically happens outside of office hours.
“We certainly get a large number of complaints from certain places,” said Kelly Scherr, Director of Construction and Compliance with the City of Regina. “Areas like the university and hospitals generates a lot of demand for parking, more than can be met on site for a specific facility. So, we wan to make sure we manage how that impacts residents in the neighbourhood.”
Early payments on parking tickets went up this year as well from $10 to $20.
Meter rates will reach two dollars an hour on April 7th.
