TORONTO – A California man won a big lottery prize one day after losing his wife to a heart attack.
Timothy McDaniel, 55, told lottery officials winning $500 a week for life on the $1 scratch ticket may have been some sort of sign from his wife.
“I think she just kind of sent me this money so I could continue taking care of the (grand) kids,” McDaniel said in a press release.
He opted to take a lump sum of $375,000.
McDaniel said he hopes to buy a new house with the winnings and save the rest.
“Everything happens for a reason and this is the break I needed. I’m going to keep on working and living my life the same I always have,” McDaniel said.
“The only difference is I have a big family and now if anybody needs anything, I can help them out.”
