Wheat Kings’ Jayce Hawryluk remains in hospital

WINNIPEG — The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings updated the condition of forward Jayce Hawryluk Thursday afternoon, releasing a statement that the 17-year-old from Roblin, Man., continues to undergo medical tests to determine what caused him to have shortness of breath and become lightheaded following Wednesday’s 5-4 playoff win against the Regina Pats.

Immediately after the game Hawryluk, who had three goals in the game including the game winner, felt lightheaded and experienced shortness of breath according to Brandon general manager and coach Kelly McCrimmon.

He was looked over by doctors immediately and they felt Hawryluk should be taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

McCrimmon told Bruce Luebke of Brandon radio station CKLQ that Hawryluk was doing well and feeling fine.

“We haven’t been given any feedback as to how any of that has gone, other than to be told that there’s no red flags and nothing alarming at this point,” McCrimmon said. “We’re optimistic that it’s not as serious as these things sometimes can be or what you sometimes left your mind fear.”
