MONTREAL – Although 2012 featured the highest ever voter turnout in a provincial election in Quebec in the 21st century, not everyone was excited to get out and vote.

According to the Directeur General des Elections du Quebec, while the overall voter turnout in the 2012 Quebec provincial elections was at 74.60 per cent, there were still a number of ridings with less than 65 per cent of residents going to the polls.

Here are the five ridings with the lowest voter turnout in the 2012 Quebec elections.
Duplessis
Population: 51,205 / Electors: 38,407 / Voter turnout: 61.60%
Duplessis borders the southern part of Labrador and is the biggest, most distant riding in Quebec’s Cote-Nord.
With a 79.8 per cent francophone population, the riding was faithfully Liberal from 1960 to 1971 before flipping to the Parti Quebecois.

Mont-Royal
Population: 74,985 / Electors: 41,431 / Voter turnout: 62.20%
The riding, which consists of the Town of Mount Royal, has consistently voted Liberal since its creation in 1973.
It is the former riding of Philippe Couillard, the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party.
Pontiac
Population: 68,245/ Electors: 48,697 / Voter turnout: 62.13%
Pontiac stretches up towards Ottawa from Gatineau in the region of Outaouais.
The district started as a Conservative riding when it was created in 1854, but switched to the Liberals in the 1970s.
Ungava
Population: 42,595 / Electors: 26,098 / Voter turnout: 41.62%
Ungava is the largest district in Northern Quebec.
Consisting of many small cities and Cree villages, it also has the second smallest population in the province.
Ungava recorded the lowest voter turnout in the province in the 2012 Quebec elections.
This was more than a 5 per cent increase compared to the 2008 general elections.
The riding has always been held by the Parti Quebecois.
Westmount-Saint-Louis
Population: 65,905 / Electors: 39,462 / Voter turnout: 59.44%
Despite being one of the wealthiest ridings with the highest number of voters with a university degree, Westmount-Saint-Louis reported one of the lowest voter turnouts in the 2012 Quebec elections.
It was the lowest voter turnout in urban Quebec, although the Directeur General des Elections du Quebec reported that this figure was an increase of more than 22 per cent from 2008.
Boasting an anglophone population of 61 per cent, Westmount-Saint-Louis has consistently elected Liberal Jacques Chagnon since its creation in 1994.
