TORONTO – Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is firing back against Opposition allegations that she may have ordered the destruction of documents related to the cancellation of two controversial gas plants.

Tory Leader Tim Hudak made the accusation after the release of court documents that show police believe former premier Dalton McGuinty’s chief of staff may have committed breach of trust.

The documents allege David Livingston sought permission to “wipe clean the hard drives” during the transition period to Wynne’s government and gave an outside expert access to two dozen computers in the premier’s office.

In a statement, former premier Dalton McGuinty again denied any involvement in the controversy, saying “at no time was I made aware of nor did I direct the deletion of emails or documents.”

Hudak charges that the access was provided for several weeks after Wynne was sworn in as premier.

But Wynne calls Hudak’s accusation “irresponsible” and “disgraceful”, saying she did not order anyone to destroy information.

Wynne says the ex-staffer has never been a member of her government and that she is co-operating with the investigation.
