VANCOUVER – A high risk sex offender who failed to return to his halfway house in Vancouver at the end of March has been arrested in Kelowna.
Vancouver Police say 44-year-old Darren Wheatley was wanted Canada-wide for breaching court imposed release conditions.
Wheatley is a two-time federal offender currently serving a 10 year sentence for two counts of sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm and two counts of overcoming resistance by choking, following three separate attacks on women in Ontario.
In a March 27 release, Sgt. Randy Fincham said Wheatley was last seen around 11 a.m. that same day leaving his halfway house at East Cordova Street and Columbia Street in Vancouver.
