CALGARY – A fire in the downtown core on Thursday caused chaos for hundreds of commuters trying to make their way into work.
The blaze broke out around 6:30 a.m. in an eatery in the 100 block of 7 Avenue S.W., beside the Palomino Smokehouse.
Crews closed 7 Avenue S.W. at Centre Street while they battled the fire, which tied up traffic in the area.

Meanwhile, Calgary Transit had to shut down the 7th Avenue LRT station and use shuttle buses to transport passengers to their destinations — causing major delays for transit users.
The fire damaged the roof of the building but there were no injuries reported.
Officials reopened 7th Avenue around 8 a.m., and C-Trains were able to resume operations.
The Calgary Police arson unit is investigating the fire, which they say is considered suspicious.
