SASKATOON – A winter recreation site in Saskatoon is one step closer to becoming reality.

The Optimist Club of Saskatoon is working towards creating a snow park facility in Diefenbaker Park.

A study was done to assess the public’s interest in the project, which would include groomed lanes for snow tubing, a terrain park for snowboarders and skiers, and an activity centre.

The results found people were interested in the concept and associated amenities.

The city has now requested a detailed business plan for the $4.5 million project, which is expected to be completed in six to eight weeks.

The campaign committee hopes to start fundraising efforts once they get a final vote of confidence from city hall and hope to have parts of the snow park ready for 2015.

“There will be some situations that may arise and delay the finalizing of the activities centre,” said Robert Letts from the Optimist Club of Saskatoon.

“Our hope is that over the 2015 winter and the 2016 winter, we will actually have proponents of the hill up and operational for the public to start using.”
