The Optimist Club asked the city for permission to move forward with the project, wanting a 99-year lease for a portion of the park.

The club is also looking for a major sponsor to fund the development with an estimated price tag of $5 million.

As for when the park could be up and running, the club is optimistic it could be as early as next winter.
