TORONTO – Olivia Chow took a cheeky shot at campaign rival John Tory.

Her campaign sent out a press release saying it had “discovered” his position on the proposed expansion of Billy Bishop Airport.

The press release reads “John Tory’s position on Island Airport discovered” followed by a blank page.

It’s Chow’s effort to suggest Tory doesn’t have a position as city councillors heard from almost 200 deputants at city hall.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

However, Tory has released his position on the airport. His campaign sent a press release early Tuesday morning suggesting the city’s executive committee should “immediately defer” the debate until more information is available.

“The report, which was issued by city staff and set to be debated today, contains dozens of unanswered issues which need to be dealt with. Until there are answers to those questions, a fact-based decision on the future of the airport will not be possible.  Mayor Ford and NDP candidate Chow will fall back to their ideological positions of “yes” or “no.” But the fact is council cannot proceed with a decision until the critical questions highlighted in the report are answered.”

It continued: “If somebody brought me a proposal with this many unresolved matters when I was running a business or a charity, it would have been a very brief meeting – I call on the executive council to be brief.”

The attack is just the latest between Tory and Chow thus far in the mayoral campaign. Tory’s campaign has launched websites criticizing Chow’salleged financial recklessness.
