Another blast of winter set to sweep across Maritime provinces

HALIFAX – It may officially be springtime, but within the next two days, the Maritimes could be blanketed with snow again.

Weather forecasts for the region are calling for between 25-40 centimeters of snow to fall, beginning early Wednesday morning.

Tracey Talbot, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the storm system is bad, even compared to other systems that have passed through Atlantic Canada lately.

“I think so far this year, this is one of the more intense systems that we’re going to see,” she said.

Storms have hit the region on a near-weekly basis in 2014, disrupting travel and other plans for Maritimers.

Talbot said it’s not unusual to get a spring storm, but this year has definitely been worse than the previous winter, which saw snowfall amounts below normal and higher temperatures.

Environment Canada has already issued special weather statements for all three Maritime provinces ahead of the storm.

The system is expected to move in with strong winds, blowing snow and rain, although variations in its track could affect precipitation amounts in some areas.
