UPDATE: Dead body found at scene of Medicine Hat police shooting

CALGARY – Officials say a man shot and killed by an officer near Medicine Hat over the weekend had a dead body in his home.

The shooting happened on Saturday, March 22nd on rural property just south of Medicine Hat city limits

A Medicine Hat police officer who was looking into a missing persons report visited the scene as part of his investigation, but was confronted by a man with a gun who pointed the weapon at the officer.

The officer retreated to his vehicle and called for backup.

Additional officers rushed to the area and began to speak with the suspect over the phone.

He was later seen removing a dead body from the back of the home, before getting into a vehicle and driving towards police.

The suspect had a gun with him at the time, and was shot by an officer as he approached.

Officials say the suspect died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Officers are investigating the death and disappearance of the person whose body was found at the scene, while ASIRT is investigating the actions of the officer who killed the suspect.
