A City of Toronto traffic agent is dead after being hit by a dump truck in East York Thursday morning.
Mayor Olivia Chow said in a statement the agent was on duty at the time of the collision, which happened near Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard.
Police said officers were called to the area at 9:02 a.m. on Thursday and that the victim — a 42-year-old man — was pronounced dead on scene.

The dump truck was making a left turn when it hit the traffic agent, police said. The driver of the dump truck — a 33-year-old man — remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Chow said she was “heartbroken” to learn the news.
“Traffic agents do some of the most demanding work in our city. They work in live traffic, in all weather conditions, to keep people moving and protect pedestrians, cyclists and drivers,” she said.
“Every shift, they help us get where we’re going safely. We are deeply thankful for that service, and this loss is a painful reminder of the risks they take on our behalf.”
An investigation is underway.

Dummy Ben aka David Best, construction cones nearby does not mean that a traffic warden was doing construction duty.

Look at the pictures and video dummy. Road signs indicating construction. Orange traffic lane barrels closing down lanes. Fencing on the sides of the road with major construction on the other side of them.
Open your eyes anonymous the dummy.
Speaking of stupid; Who mentioned anything about construction?

Traffic exists everywhere? The traffic wardens were hired to help the flow of traffic downtown; specially during heavy rush hour traffic. How one gets killed is big news stupid. Payduty Officers should have been involved with heavy equipment or construction duties. Not traffic Wardens. Specially if it’s a solo Traffic Warden.
My condolences to the family and friends
Traffic exists everywhere genius!
I thought traffic wardens were only downtown. Did the deceased traffic warden have a partner with him/her? Or were they alone?
