Following the snap provincial election on Saturday in which the BC Conservatives won a strong majority, many are questioning what is next for the BC NDP.
David Eby resigned from his position as BC NDP leader on Saturday.
BC NDP MLA for Vancouver-Renfrew, Adrian Dix, said Eby took responsibility for calling the election.
“The snap election had a number of effects,” Dix said.
“First of all, it blotted out every other issue. So we want to talk about health care. We have a significant advantage on health care, people support our public health care position, but we couldn’t get the issue beyond the snap election, whether it was that or car insurance or any of the issues we wanted to talk about.”
Dix said the election also demobilized their supporters who didn’t vote because they were responding to an election that they did not see was necessary.
“I’m not going to get into who said what to who here,” he said.

“I think very clearly, if you’re going to call an election in B.C., where every election is close, everyone is close… you’re putting the government and the project at risk. You have to have a very strong and compelling reason to do that. And the voters told us very explicitly we didn’t.”
Dix said they still have people in the BC NDP who want to work and hold the newly-elected BC Conservative majority government to account.
“But we also have to listen and learn,” Dix added.
“We can’t draw all the conclusions now, we gotta go talk to our members and people, especially people in areas that didn’t vote NDP.”
Dix said that includes Surrey and south of the Fraser River, to the Tri-Cities and the B.C. Interior.
He said they have to pick a new leader for their party but they also need time to reflect on what happened and why.
“We’ve had nine years in government,” Dix added.
“There were really significant successes, but there were things that we didn’t achieve as well. And I think this is the opportunity to do that. We’ve got to get to work. I think people voted for a Conservative government last Saturday, but 38 per cent of them voted NDP, and they want a strong opposition, and we’re going to deliver that.”
Dix said in 2001, the BC NDP suffered the biggest loss in the party’s history.
“We came back from that,” he said. “But we can only do that if we listen, we engage, and we do our job as an opposition.”
Dix failed in every ministry he was in, he is best to hit the road.
Dear Needles, Drugs and Poverty Party.
Nobody believes your B.S. anymore.
Kindly pound a couple of fistfulls of sand up your wazoos.Thx
Ya because their ideas are weird. Free drugs, DEI policies, embracing homeless junkies, giving away your land, taxing the life out of people, not investing for the greater good. It’s weird. Stop being a bunch of weirdos with weirdo ideologies and you will stand the rest of time. Just be normal. Do what is truly right instead of what you think makes you popular. Jackass.
Adrian Dix is not the sharpest knife in the toolbox. He’s rather dumb but not racist like Niki Sharma!
On election night it was put forward that a gross miscalculation shown by the Eby government in calling an early election will now be known as an ‘Eby’. I would like to put forward a dictionary definition for an ‘Eby’.
‘Eby’ – An incompetent decision to embark on a foolish endeavour that is doomed to failure.
The 84 million dollar price tag for this election was well worth it to flush Eby and the NDP party down the toilet and elect a Conservative government…
As to why Eby made such a disastrous miscalculation, I think he and other political leaders can live in echo chambers where their followers give them a false sense of how well they’re they’re actually doing with voters…
the ndp became a joke under eby, you do not listen and learn
The only thing the NDP must do is find out which advisor convinced Eby to call a snap election, and fire them so hard they can never work on BC politics again.
Dix is wrong people didn’t need to listen about anything because the people of BC seen for themselves how the NDP have destroyed BC. The NDP didn’t recognize the fact that Eby must be the most hated premier in BC history and he thought he could capitalize on the mess the conservatives seemed to be in and lost big time because most NDP supporters didn’t go out to vote.
Of course that is global bc supporting eby and ndp
Wrong anonymous, the dumbest are the one who vote Liberal. Both rhe Federal ones and the ones conviently renamed “Conservatives” in BC. Yes the same BC Lieberals that ruined this province for more than a decade under Crusty Clark and drunk driving clown Campbell? Yes the same people that made sure your kids can never afford a home in BC, made ambulance chasing lawyers enough money to retire early, and ruined our schools and hospitals? Yup the “smart” ones voted them in again.
I’m definitely not in Eby’s corner but come on people, do you think they are actually going to repeal DRIPA?
NDP voters are hands down the dumbest people around, 1st prize dipsh*ts !
Eby and his dumdum voters got FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET!
I wonder if Eby will re-apply for 10$ daycare now that he’s out?
😂
I recall correctly Eby after almost losing the last election said “listen and learn” and yet it was rinse and repeat and double down.
They got what they deserved.
“But we also have to listen and learn,” Dix added.”
I’ll take things that NDP/Liberals can’t do for $500, Alex.
Eby should have resigned from politics.
