SYDNEY, N.S. – A 10-year-old boy is in custody after police say he threatened several officers with a knife in Sydney, N.S.
Police say they received reports at about 9:40 a.m today that a boy had gone missing from his school.
Police spokeswoman Desiree Vassallo says they located him within 30 minutes.
She says the boy threatened police with a knife when they approached him and they had to call in other officers.
Police eventually disarmed the boy, arrested him under the Mental Health Act and took him to Cape Breton Regional Hospital for assessment.
Vassallo says children under the age of 12 cannot be charged with a criminal offence but police can use alternative methods such as restorative justice.
