Family homeless after fire rips through house

A young Kelowna family is homeless after fire spread through the roof of their home.

Fire officials say the home on Cadder Avenue in Kelowna suffered about $100,000 worth of damage in the blaze.

The fire broke out Saturday night just before 7 pm.

Officials says a BBQ caused nearby materials to catch fire.

The flames then spread to the exterior of the house and up into the attic.

Crews were able to knock the fire down before it spread to a neighbouring home but it did damage a nearby shed.

A couple and their child are now in the care of emergency social services.

No one was injured.
