New Brunswick winter sees 30% more snow

FREDERICTON – Environment Canada Meteorologist Claude Côté says it’s been the coldest winter New Brunswick has seen in about 20 years.

And there’s been about 30 per cent more snow than average.

Saint John has seen 195 cms of snow, while the average is 174 cms. Fredericton saw 249 cms, the average being 167 cms and Moncton had the province’s highest snowfall total with 271 cms, while the average is 226 cms.

Those numbers do not include March snow fall totals. March 13 blanketed New Brunswick with a thick layer of snow.

“That brought in actually up to 50 cms of snow in Tracadie and up to 45 cms in the Woodstock and Perth-Andover areas,” Côté said.

Côté predicts New Brunswick won’t see spring temperatures for the rest of March and into April.
