The F Word (or What If) is scheduled to be released in theatres on Aug. 1.

According to a statement from eOne Films Canada, the U.S. organization that issues ratings to movies took issue with the title.

“The U.S. distributor was under certain MPAA restrictions that do not affect us in Canada so we are able to keep The F Word, the title we all loved from the beginning,” said Frank Mendicino, eOne’s senior vice president of marketing.

The original title refers to the word “friendship.”

The movie follows Wallace (Radcliffe) and Chantry (Kazan) as their friendship blossoms into something bigger and they must decide whether to keep things platonic.
