Cormorant helicopter rescues canoeist suffering from chest pains

<p>HALIFAX – The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax says a Cormorant helicopter was sent to rescue a canoeist Sunday after he began suffering from chest pains.</p> <p>Spokesman Capt. Doug Keirstead said the 66-year-old man was canoeing with two other people at the time on Big Black Lake, about 57 kilometres northwest of Halifax.</p> <p>Keirstead said a call was made to 911, but the area was too remote for an ambulance to reach.</p> <p>A Cormorant helicopter from 14 Wing Greenwood in Nova Scotia was dispatched for a medevac around 11 a.m.</p> <p>Keirstead said the man was taken by Cormorant to Shearwater, where he was picked up by an ambulance and sent to hospital in Halifax in fair condition.</p>
