Early morning fire in North Central

At around 3 AM this morning the Regina Fire Department was called to house fire at 1078 Athol Street.

When fire crews arrived they encountered heavy black smoke but were able to get the blaze under control within 12 minutes.

Albert Hendricks with the Regina Fire Department said that during entry to the house one firefighter was injured and taken to hospital but was released a short time later.

There was no one home at the time of the fire and a natural gas leak was not the cause but an investigation is currently underway to determine how the fire started.
