SASKATOON – There has been a death at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon.
Correctional Service Canada says John Schimmens, 65, died at the institutional hospital on Thursday.
At the time of his death, Schimmens was serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder, perjury and obstruction of a peace officer. The cause of death has not been released.
He had been serving his sentence since Oct. 16, 1990.
The police and coroner’s office have been notified of the death and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstance leading up to Schimmens’ death.
