Halifax Regional Police are investigating a morning shooting in a west-end Halifax neighbourhood that has left a man with life-threatening injuries. As Mitchell Bailey tells us, neighbours are left shaken by the incident, and say they are concerned for their own safety.

A 25-year-old man has life-threatening injuries after a daytime shooting in Halifax’s west end, police say.

Halifax Regional Police responded to the 3300 block of St. Andrews Avenue just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“Our officers arrived on scene, they located the 25-year-old male who was suffering from a gunshot wound,” said police spokesperson, Const. Martin Cromwell.

“Our officers provided life-saving measures until EHS arrived and transported him to the hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.”

There was a heavy police presence in the area, and St. Andrews Avenue to Federal Avenue was closed to vehicles and pedestrians as police investigated.

Neighbours told Global News they were concerned about crime in the area, especially since children are frequently outside in the residential neighbourhood during the morning hours.

“Anytime an incident like this happens in a community, it definitely would be alarming, very concerning, very traumatic,” said Cromwell.

“Right now, we do not believe this incident was a random incident and we don’t believe there to be a threat to the general public.”
