The province announced Friday they will commit $2-million in capital funding to develop a new day program for people with intellectual disabilities in the Battlefords.
Battlefords Trade and Education Centre, Inc. (BTEC) is leading the project in partnership with the Ministry of Social Service.
“This significant new investment will enable BTEC to deliver enhanced day program services to existing participants, as well as expand services to more people with intellectual disabilities,” said Social Services Minister June Draude.
BTEC is looking to raise an addition $1.25-million through fundraising for the project.
Approximately 75 people currently participate in BTEC’s day program out of three buildings in North Battleford and Don Amos, Executive Director of BTEC, say the new building will be better “designed to accommodate people with intellectual disabilities who have a wide range of support needs.”
The project is part of a four-year, $76.9-million commitment the government has made to eliminate a waitlist of 440 Saskatchewan people with intellectual difficulties who need programs and services.
