Saskatchewan Flood Watch: Spring snow storm expected to raise water levels - image

MELVILLE, Sask. – Officials in Saskatchewan and Manitoba hope to have a better idea today on how a dump of snow this weekend will affect their flood situation.

A spring storm blanketed parts of both provinces with snow, and it’s expected to raise water levels on lakes and rivers.

High winds whipped waves over sandbags in a couple of small communities on Crooked Lake in Saskatchewan.

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger says the storm shows the flood situation can change very quickly.

Manitoba flood forecaster Steve Topping says the melt from the snow in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan will prolong the high levels on rivers.

He says the full impact isn’t known, but officials hope to know more later today.
