CALGARY – A former award-winning Calgary foster parent has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor once again.

52-year-old Garry Dale Prokopishin had previously been charged with a form of prostitution and sexual assault by a person in a position of trust.

In Februrary, 2010, Prokopishin was accused of victimizing three teen boys at his Beddington Heights home. Two more victims have since come forward prompting police to lay more charges.

In December 2010, police received a complaint from a man who claimed to have been sexually abused while Prokopishin’s foster home. The acts allegedly took place between Thursday, November 15th, 2001 and Thursday, September 1st, 2005.

Police say the teen, who was 14 when the abuse began, was repeatedly sexually assaulted while in Prokopishin’s care. The assaults took place inside the home as well as locations outside of the city.

Money was offered in exchange for the sexual acts similar to the other victims.

This is the sixth victim to come forward with allegations against Prokopishin.

55 foster children, all boys, lived under Prokopishin’s care over a period of 20 years. All the children were between the ages of 14 and 17; one to five boys lived in the home at a time. Police have not yet spoken with all of them and continue to investigate.

Prokopishin once held the position of director of the Calgary and District Foster Parents Association and was named Foster Family of the year in 2007.
