In the 67th game of the 1954-55 NHL season, star Montreal Canadien Maurice Richard was suspended for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs after hitting a linesman.
Montreal fans who felt the suspension was too severe protested near the Montreal Forum, prompting what is now known as the Richard Riot.
Protesters smashed windows and attacked bystanders, causing over $100,000 in damage.
