TORONTO – In a west Toronto neighbourhood Wednesday, residents were startled when they were awoken by screams believed to be the painful cries of a baby raccoon.
The animal had been beaten repeatedly by a shovel-wielding homeowner.
The appalling act is far from the first incident of man’s rage against raccoons.
But sometimes the feisty fur balls bite back.
Just desserts: In Russia, a drunken man looking for a thrill had his penis bitten off by a raccoon he was trying to rape. Surgeons couldn’t reattach the chomped off piece of the pervert’s manhood.
Masked thieves: At least two female golfers at a Florida country club fell prey to a purse-snatching raccoon, or raccoons, living near the course. Authorities believe some of the victims carried crackers in their bags, unknowingly attracting the hungry critters.
Beware, baby: In Georgia, a pair of toothy raccoons severely injured a 9-month-old baby sleeping in her crib. After 12 days in hospital, the girl was released. Police later charged her father for keeping the animals as pets.
Gang violence: An elderly woman in Florida was “filleted” by a pack of ferocious raccoons, according to a sheriff investigating the incident. The 74-year-old was apparently trying to shoo the animals off her property when they turned on her.
Skunk lures raccoons: A man known as the “Skunk Whisperer” rescued a pair of baby raccoons stuck in machine in an Oklahoma apartment complex.
