CALGARY – Three people have been charged following the kidnapping of a seven-month-old girl that triggered an Amber Alert.

On Tuesday afternoon, the infant was buckled into the backseat of a truck, when it was stolen. A frantic search ensued, which ended when a resident south of Grande Prairie reported he’d found the girl – still in her car seat – on his front porch.

RCMP eventually tracked down the stolen vehicle, and took three people into custody: a 26-year-old woman and 22-year-old man from Grande Prairie, and a 14-year-old from Edmonton.

26-year-old Keisha Horseman has been charged with:

  • Kidnapping
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Abandoning a Child
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

22-year-old David Michael Smith has been charged with:

  • Abandoning a Child
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • 6 Counts Failing to Comply With a Recognizance

The youth, who cannot be identified, has been charged with:

  • Kidnapping
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Abandoning a Child
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • 2 Counts of Failing to Comply with Probation

They are scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Monday March 3, 2014.

The infant’s family says they’re extremely thankful for the outpouring of support they received while trying to find their daughter.
