Outdoor pool at Henderson Lake gets $650,000 facelift

City council has awarded a $650,000 contract to create a new pool basin for the Henderson Lake Outdoor Swimming Pool.

“The Henderson outdoor pool has been a very popular summer attraction in our city since it was built in the early 1960s. We want to ensure the design work is done as soon as possible so that our community will miss only one season of use while the new basin is being constructed,” said Mayor Chris Spearman.

Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd. of Red Deer will begin work immediately. The firm will be responsible for designing a new pool basin and will complete upgrades to the existing change room building to ensure completely barrier-free use for patrons.

The pool basin is being replaced because it has deteriorated steadily in recent years and was no longer holding water . The project is funded primarily with provincial grant money from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative.
