Daffodil campaign raises cancer awareness

The Canadian Cancer Society in the Central Okanagan celebrated Daffodil Day on Wednesday.

Around 30 people, ranging from cancer survivors to representatives from Interior Health, gathered at the Southern Interior Rotary Lodge in Kelowna to commemorate the special occasion.

Sally Ginter, regional director for the Canadian Cancer Society, says the daffodil campaign has gained tremendous amounts of momentum compared to last year and has escalated greater public awareness about cancer.

The daffodil campaign was in pilot stages in B.C. last year.

This year, the campaign is a national initiative.

There are six million daffodil pins being sold across the country, with two million of them in this province alone.

The Canadian Cancer Society hopes to raise one dollar for every pin sold.
