Where to watch the gold medal game in Toronto

TORONTO – Toronto sports fans have encountered the perfect storm after Canada made the men’s hockey final and city council passed a motion allowing bars to open early.

After a nail-biting 1-0 victory over the U.S., Canada will take on Sweden for the gold medal Sunday and bars across the city will be serving booze along with breakfast.

Toronto will join other cities across the country who will cheer on Team Canada while raising a glass.

Here’s a look at places across the city to catch the game at 7 a.m. Sunday

Rock Lobster Food Co.

Start your morning off at this bar located on Queen Street West. In addition to serving pints for the game, Rock Lobster will feature its signature Caesar made with Ketel One vodka and garnished with a lobster tail. Rock Lobster opens at 6:30 a.m.

Wheat Sheaf Tavern

Before Canada was officially a country, and before the introduction of the winter Olympics, there was the Wheat Sheaf Tavern. Located at the corner of Bathurst and King streets, one of Toronto’s oldest establishments will be serving a brunch menu in addition to regular beer selection. The Wheat Sheaf opens at 7 a.m.

Real Sports Bar and Grill

Big and loud. The MLSE-owned restaurant prides itself on being one of the best sports bars in the world. Featuring a two-storey big screen, and 200 other televisions Real Sports will be busy as reservations are reportedly all booked. Bar stools will be a hot commodity for fans looking for a big crowd.

Tallboys Craft Beer House

Tallboys will opening its doors at 6 a.m. Serving food and coffee before switching to booze for the game. This location serves exclusively Ontario craft beer, with one of the largest selections in the province.

Monarch Tavern

Located in Little Italy, the Monarch Tavern will be serving pancakes in honour of the gold medal game, along with its regular bar selection.

The Dog and Bear

This Queen Street West location is a traditional British pub with 20 beers on tap and unique menu items like Toad in a Hole.

Shoeless Joe’s

Franchises are located across the city and will turn on their taps for the gold medal game in wards where extended licenses are permitted.

Sports Centre Cafe

Featuring big screens and booths with private TVs, this establishment is located on St. Clair West near Yonge. Opening at 6:30 a.m., they will feature a breakfast menu with their regular tap list.
