Firefighters work to extinguish blaze in Pointe-Saint-Charles

MONTREAL – Firefighters are working hard to extinguish an enormous fire in Pointe-Saint-Charles on the corner of Ropery and Centre Streets.

The building was under construction when it caught fire.

Witnesses say they heard a loud explosion around 2:30pm.

At least eight fire trucks and more than 50 firefighters are on the scene and have already set up a large safety perimeter.

They are putting out the blaze from the ground as well as from the roof of an adjacent apartment building.

Twenty people were evacuated from their homes because the fire has spread to nearby buildings and cars.

There are no reported injuries.
