Cromdale Hotel for sale

It’s arguably one of Edmonton’s least desirable buildings, and it can be yours for just $2.5-million.

‘For Sale’ signs have been erected at the Cromdale Hotel, which has sat vacant since 2004 when Capital Health declared it ‘unfit for human habitation.’

"With a little luck, there’s a positive investor in the wings who wants to demolish it and do something good with it," says Chris Hayduk of the group Community Response to Urban Disorder. "Maybe the owner has decided it’s time to pull the pin on this one and move on."

The Cromdale has long been the focal point of a revitalization battle along Alberta Avenue. A year and a half ago the city ordered the building demolished, but that ruling has been under various appeals ever since.

"I guess a little frustrating – the slowness of the appeals and perhaps the process that it has taken," says Irene Yauk, manager of the Carrot Coffee House.

In May the Alberta Court of Appeal will decide whether or not to hear the latest appeal of the demolition order.

There is no word on whether or not there are any prospective buyers.
