SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man whose two dogs attacked a letter carrier last year has been fined.

Samuel Northey appeared in court on Tuesday after being charged under the city’s dangerous animal’s bylaw of owning a dog that attacked a person without provocation.

The two dogs attacked the 59-year-old letter carrier on May 31, 2013, leaving him with a number of bite wounds.

When police arrived, the animals continued to act aggressively towards them and an officer shot and killed one of the dogs.

The other dog escaped but was captured a short time later.

Northey pleaded guilty in court to violating the bylaw and was fined $500.

His dog was declared dangerous and must be neutered by March 31. The dog must also be microchipped and must be muzzled and kept on a leash in public.
