Gov. Gen. David Johnston to visit India

OTTAWA – The Prime Minister’s Office says Gov. Gen. David Johnston will make a state visit to India at the end of the month.

The visit will run from Feb. 22 to March 2.

The trip will include meetings with leading politicians, senior government officials and business and civil leaders.

The Prime Minister’s Office says the trip aims at strengthening relations with India including commercial and educational ties.

Canada and India are negotiating a comprehensive economic partnership in the hope of tripling bilateral trade to $15 billion a year.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper made official visits to India in 2009 and 2012 and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Canada in 2010.
