One person in hospital after suspected shooting in Malakwa

MALAKWA – Breaking news out of a small community in the Shuswap area.  RCMP are investigating a home invasion in Malakwa east of Sicamous.

RCMP say it appears to have been targeted.  They say three men entered the home with weapons, and a struggle ensued between them and the home owner. During the altercation the home owner was injured, possibly from gunshot wounds. The extent of injuries is not known, and the suspects fled before police arrived.

A Global Okanagan viewer says the victim was taken by ambulance to a waiting chopper in Sicamous, where he was airlifted to a local hospital.  Road blocks were set up in the area as police searched for the suspects.

Police say the investigation is in the early stages as they speak with the victim and witnesses.
