The work currently underway includes rock berms and three dikes around the Highwood River.

High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass believes the safety measures are a major step towards protecting the town from future floods.

The berms are being built one metre higher than the peak water levels seen during flooding which devastated the town in June of 2013.
