Former Regina police officer will learn his fate on Friday

REGINA- A former Regina Police officer who lost his job for kicking a man and then lying about it will learn his fate Friday.

Robert Power was convicted at the end of January of assault causing bodily harm after he kicked Edward Stonechild outside a detox centre in May 2012.

The kick caused Stonechild to fall backward and hit his head. Stonechild was sent to hospital and was released later that night.

Power told police he pushed the man with his hand and only when the surveillance video was released, he admitted he kicked him.

On Wednesday the defense argued for a discharge, saying he acted in self defense.

“I’m truly sorry for my actions. I understand I can’t change them,” said Power in court on Wednesday.

Power was in court Wednesday but sentencing has been delayed until Friday, February 14th.
