Bombers’ fans are going to be able to show their blue and gold where it counts starting this summer: on the road.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers unveiled a brand-new license plate design emblazoned with their logo and the words “true blue” on Thursday at noon, with the help of Bombers’ president Jim Bell and representatives from Manitoba Public Insurance.

“Fans of the Blue Bombers are passionate about their football team,” said Andrew Swam, the Minister responsible for MPI, “They have told us that they want to show support for their team by displaying a specialized license plate. MPI will work closely with the Bombers to ensure the license plate reflects the proud history of the club and meets the needs of all partners.”

The Blue Bombers license plate initiative is being administered by MPI as a pilot program, with a limited number of specialty plates being released before the start of the 2011 Canadian Football League season.

The new plates cost $70, with $30 from each plate going to the Blue Bombers organization, and they will be available in early June at over 300 Autopac agents.
