Pathologist who examined 10-year-old boy’s body set to testify at murder trial

BRAMPTON, Ont. – Autopsy results for a 10-year-old boy who died in the care of his father and stepmother are expected to be presented in a Toronto-area court today.

The pathologist who examined Shakeil Boothe’s body is set to testify in the couple’s murder trial.

Shakeil was found dead in his bed on May 27, 2011, and prosecutors allege he had been abused and starved for months.

His father Garfield Boothe and stepmother Nichelle Boothe-Rowe are both charged with second-degree murder.

Court has heard a police forensics team found traces of what appeared to be blood on the boy’s bed, on the baseboards of his room and on several items in the house.

Crown lawyers said in their opening statement the blood was Shakeil’s.

Police photos presented in court showed bruises and cuts on much of the boy’s lifeless body, as well as foam coming out of his mouth.
