EDMONTON – Alberta Finance Minister Doug Horner is happy to see a $2.8 billion commitment to flood relief in the federal budget, but says he still has some questions.
Horner says he will be checking with Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government on timelines for delivering the money.
The federal government is picking up the lion’s share of the cost to rebuild parts of Calgary and southern Alberta after floods devastated the region in June.
Horner says he is also hoping that Alberta will be in line for more infrastructure spending, along the lines of money earmarked for Ontario and Quebec.
Horner says his province has been funding quite a bit on ring roads and highways, but could use some help from federal funds.
He notes that what is good for Alberta is good for everyone, as Alberta is Canada’s economic engine.
