HAMILTON, Ont. – A Hamilton police officer is among those under arrest following a major drug bust in Ontario that netted millions of dollars worth of drugs, property and cash.

Twenty-one people have been arrested and charged after multiple raids that involved several jurisdictions after an 18-month investigation dubbed Project Newton.

About 175 officers raided 23 homes and businesses in the Hamilton, Halton, Niagara, Peel, Haldimand County and Sudbury areas Wednesday.

Houses, vehicles and $140,000 in cash were seized, along with drugs including cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamine and anabolic steroids.

Const. Andrew Pauls is charged with breach of trust and police say he is already suspended.

It’s alleged the officer leaked information from a police computer to the main target of the investigation.

The investigation began after Hamilton police received a tip that a bodybuilder was allegedly selling anabolic steroids.

34-year-old Reiner Ruska and his 37-year-old brother were allegedly trafficking out of two nutrition stores in Hamilton and another in Grimsby, Ont.

Police say more than $1-million in anabolic steroids were seized during the raids.

Investigators allege the ring expanded to the selling of other drugs.

The seizure of more than $3-million worth of crystal meth is the largest bust of street-ready methamphetamine in Canadian history.
