While there was a sprinkling of snow in Metro Vancouver overnight, an expected snowstorm failed to materialize.
Snow fell in parts of the Fraser Valley, the North Shore, Surrey and Richmond on Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
However, despite an Environment Canada weather alert last week predicting an “untimely” snowstorm for the South Coast, most people in the Lower Mainland woke up seeing grass on the ground.
Snow is still in the forecast for northern elevations, and the Coquihalla is still expected to pick up 10 to 15 centimetres of snow today.
But Global BC’s Mark Madryga says Vancouverites should prepare for rain, not snow, going forward today.

“Milder air seeped into the Lower Mainland a little earlier than anticipated this morning,” he says. “Milder air with rain this afternoon is the forecast with for most of the South Coast highs to six degrees. Heavy rain will hit the Lower Mainland again tomorrow night as well.”
Most of B.C. continued to see freezing temperatures over the weekend. It allowed people to lace up their skates on lakes and temporary ponds across the province – as you can see from our photo gallery below.
