Plane crash at Cooking Lake, no injuries

No one was injured after a small plane flipped over upon landing at the Cooking Lake Airport Friday morning.

Around 10 a.m., a male student pilot was landing a Cessna 172 when the aircraft struck a goose on the way down.

“The plane crashed upon landing and skidded off the runway,” said Sarah Meffen of Edmonton Airports. The plane came to a rest upside-down, she said.

The pilot was from the Cooking Lake Aviation Academy and was on his solo test flight. He was checked by paramedics at the scene and released, Meffen said.

The Transportation Safety Board has already released the scene, but the airport could not open until the plane has been cleared away.

The pilot had taken off from the Cooking Lake Airport earlier Friday morning.
