Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford get second place in team pairs short program

Canadian figure skating pair Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford have received second place in the team pairs short program. This earns 9 points for Canada for the team skating event.

Duhamel and Radford scored 73.10 for their routine, behind Russian pair, Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov with 83.79.

This is the first Olympics for both of them. The pair skated to a melody composed by Radford to commemorate his deceased former coach, Paul Wirtz, who died in 2006.

In the team event, new this Olympics, skaters earn points based on how they place in each competition. The scores are added together to come up with a country’s total.

Patrick Chan received third place in the team men’s competition earlier Thursday. With his score, Canada now has a total of 17 points, which means it’s in second place behind Russia after two events in the team competition.

The team event continues Saturday, Feb. 8 with the Ice Dance Short Dance. The competition starts at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time (6:00 a.m. Pacific).
